Alongside our core transport services, CTWF leads and participates in a range of special projects — from celebrating community heritage to shaping the future of accessible transport. Here's what we're working on.
From preserving the stories of our community's past to building new transport models for the future — CTWF's special projects show what's possible when a community comes together with purpose.
Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund with a grant of £140,666, Charabancs & Cadillacs is a community heritage project celebrating the rich social history of transport in Waltham Forest and Newham.
The project brings together oral histories, community quilts, archive photographs and personal memories from elderly residents — preserving stories that might otherwise be lost. From the days of the charabanc outings to the arrival of the Cadillac-era culture, these stories paint a vivid picture of how transport shaped community life in East London.
Key outputs of the project include the Travel Quilt, the Heritage Trunk — a travelling archive of community stories and artefacts — and an ever-growing community archive of photographs, recordings and reminiscences.
Get Up & Go is CTWF's dedicated transport service for Waltham Forest residents with mobility needs — helping people stay independent, socially connected and able to access the services they need.
The service runs two core programmes: the Door to Store Shopping Service, providing weekly supported shopping trips for residents who find it difficult to get to the supermarket independently, and the Excursion Club, which offers regular social day trips and outings throughout the year.
Get Up & Go now has its own dedicated website at getupandgowf.co.uk — making it easier for residents, carers, referrers and professionals to find information, register for services and stay up to date with upcoming trips.
Funded by the Motability Foundation, CTWF is leading a two-year feasibility study (2025–2027) to explore and test innovative new models of community transport across Haringey, Hackney and Enfield.
Working in partnership with Disability Action Haringey and leading consultancies Public Voice and Urban Movement, the study is co-designed with disabled and older people to ensure that the transport solutions explored genuinely reflect the needs and experiences of the people they are meant to serve.
The project's focus areas are accessibility, efficiency, sustainability and scalability — identifying and piloting new ways of delivering sub-regional community transport that makes a real difference to independence and quality of life.
Delivering Community Transport Differently is an inclusive community transport feasibility study, exploring how transport services across Haringey, Hackney and Enfield can better meet the needs of disabled people, older residents and carers.
The project has been engaging with local residents, community organisations and Disabled People's Organisations (DPOs) to understand the real barriers people face when trying to access healthcare, social activities and everyday essentials. A resident survey launched in February 2026 received 114 responses, and focus groups have been delivered across all three boroughs to dig deeper into lived experiences.
The next phase of the project (April–September 2026) will move into co-design workshops, where residents and stakeholders will help shape potential new transport models and routes to be piloted.
